
On June 18, Johnson City and Washington County officials were hosted by Volkswagen Corporation of America in Chattanooga. A presentation on Volkswagen’s new Tennessee project and a tour of the Volkswagen Academy, a state-of-the-art training facility created in partnership with Chattanooga State Community College were highlights of the visit. The Volkswagen Academy has 163,000 square feet of space that houses a conference center, LEAN center, automotive center, automation center and vocational skills center. It also contains 19 classrooms and a cafeteria. Participating on the trip were Washington County Mayor George Jaynes, Washington County Mayor-Elect Dan Eldridge, P.C. Snapp and Alan Bridwell of the Economic Development Board and Todd Smith with the City of Johnson City.
